The České hlavičky competition originated from a science-popularization project named Česká hlava, which has been successfully promoting the outreach of scientists and technical professionals. The competition culminates in the annual awarding of the National Government Prize "Česká hlava" and other awards related to science and technology.
The comprehensive programme supports talented students with technical and scientific background and contributes to increasing young people's interest in studying related disciplines at secondary schools and universities. In addition, it develops their interests in science and encourages them to pursue a scientific career. The project not only informs the wider public of news in the field of science but also supports talented students as role models for their peers through media campaigns and public outreach activities.
"České hlavičky" was first launched in 2007. In its 16th edition (2022), a new category – INTENTIO "Sustainable Development," sponsored by Charles University – was introduced for the first time. This award recognizes outstanding work and projects that contribute to sustainable development goals at both the individual and societal level. It focuses on the responsible use of natural resources, their impact on climate, the sustainability of cities and communities, equal opportunities, and the quality of life for future generations.
The winner receives a financial award of CZK 30,000.
