Charles University recognises a vibrant ecosystem of student self-governance and community life. At the centre of formal representation and governance is the Student Chamber of the Academic Senate where student senators co-decide and advise on key matters. The Academic Senate, including its Student Chamber, approves internal regulations and other strategic decisions, ensuring student unions can provide governance input to university.

At national level, Charles University students are represented in the Students’ Chamber of the Czech Higher Education Council (SK RVŠ), which articulates student interests and addresses systemic issues such as social support.

Alongside governance, CU hosts numerous student associations and clubs that organise cultural, social and sports activities, peer support and integration for both Czech and international students.

Supporting Sustainable Development through Student Clubs

In 2023, an initial survey was conducted to map out associations and initiatives across the university whose activities relate to sustainable development. We would like to further expand this list and establish closer cooperation with some of them.
