Giving Tuesday is a global movement of generosity and good deeds that began in 2012 in the USA as a response to the shopping madness of Black Friday. It is celebrated every year on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving – in 2025, it will be on December 2. In the Czech Republic, it has been coordinated for the tenth year by the Association of Social Responsibility as the national ambassador.
One day. Countless good deeds. Giving Tuesday has become the most generous day of the year in the Czech Republic. It brings together people who want to make the world a better place – through kindness, generosity, and willingness to help, whether with small gestures or large actions.
Over the past decade, people in the Czech Republic have donated more than half a billion CZK on Giving Tuesday and carried out countless acts of solidarity. The goal of Giving Tuesday is to inspire individuals, companies, schools, and entire communities to help others – by donating money, blood, food, or simply their skills and energy. Every good deed and act of generosity counts.
Everyone has something to offer – time, expertise, money, large or small material donations, food, clothing, toys, or even their own blood. Giving Tuesday connects and inspires people of all nationalities, religions, and communities to take part in good deeds.
Charles University will participate in Giving Tuesday from November 20 to December 4, 2025, through its faculties and other divisions, which are organizing programs for students, staff, and the general public.
The Sustainable Development Office of CU, together with the CU Volunteer Center, is organizing the clothing and drugstore collection for the Sant’Egidio community, St. Teresa Shelter, Jako doma, and Šatník as part of this year’s Giving Tuesday. By donating clean and well-maintained clothing, you can contribute to those who need it most, thereby supporting solidarity, humanity, and mutual aid in our society.
Thank you for bringing only clothes and items from the following list. We kindly ask for the donations to be brought to Gratis Market, clean and undamaged, on Mondays and Wednesdays 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
On the occasion of International Volunteer Day, the CU Volunteer Center invites students and employees to a community event. Together, we will participate in a charity project and write postcards and letters for clients of non-profit organizations. You can also look forward to a visit from the therapeutic pony Monty, Christmas cookies, warm tea and mulled wine. Come and enjoy the pre-Christmas atmosphere and support a good cause at the same time!
You can find more information on the website HERE.
You can arrive anytime from 1:00 PM without registering, but if you register, it will make our organization much easier.
The collection is organized by the Charter against Domestic Violence together with its signatories, including Charles University, to operate and develop Line 116 016 – a nationwide, free, non-stop line for women experiencing domestic violence. The line is operated by therapists from the ROSA organization – a center for women. The collection is taking place on the Darujme.cz platform under the Via Foundation and is open until December 2, 2025. Donate any amount and, if you wish, you can select Charles University in the contact details section in the “Organization from which I am donating”. Then we will know how much we have contributed together.
The link to the collection is HERE.
Join the pre-Christmas charity collection for the organization Mothers with Cancer and help mothers who are bravely fighting cancer. Just drop a voluntary contribution into the collection box in the faculty café or during the Christmas Pub Quiz. Every donation has meaning, and together we will light up hope where it is needed most.

One of the many events that you can support (not only on Tuesday, December 2, but throughout Advent) is the preparation of a Christmas lunch for poor and lonely people, traditionally organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio, which will take place on December 25 at the Archbishop's Palace. In addition to many other people of good will, Ukrainian families will also come to help this year. And how can you specifically support this charitable, but also organizationally and financially demanding event?
According to Prof. Kristina Koldinská from our Faculty of Law, who is involved in its preparation, material contributions such as scarves, hats, gloves, high-quality warm socks, blankets, and sleeping bags are very welcome, as are Christmas gifts for women and school-age children. All of these items can be brought to the Campus Hybernská on Monday, December 8, where the collection will take place with the help of the volunteer center of CU. Alternatively, donations can be brought directly to our faculty in room 227 or left in a box in the hallway outside this room.
Anyone who would like to contribute financially to the Christmas lunches can do so by making a donation of any amount to the transparent account no. 2000044037/2010. Last but not least, those who can offer their hands and physical help with the organization should not hesitate to contact us at koldinsk@prf.cuni.cz.
A summary of the various forms of participation and details about the collection point at Faculty of Law can be found HERE.
