The 4EU+ University Alliance, of which Charles University is a part, has received a grant from the Erasmus+ 2024 programme for the 4EU+ Micro-Credential Integration (4EU+ MICI) project. The project focuses on the development of micro-certificates as a flexible lifelong learning tool that responds to the needs of the labour market affected by the digital and green transformation. Within three years, a European framework for the creation and recognition of micro-certificates is to be created, including cooperation with the application sphere and the involvement of practitioners.
Project structure
The project is divided into five work packages (WP), each led by one of the member universities. Charles University is responsible for the quality assurance area (WP4) and actively participates in all other parts of the project. It also cooperates with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Chamber of Commerce of the Czech Republic. Research interviews and workshops focused on mapping digital and green competences in partner countries will take place in autumn 2025.
Five work packages
• WP1 Project Management and Coordination (Sorbonne University): coordinates the project as a whole, ensures management, reporting and monitoring of progress.
• WP2 Identification of skills and needs (University of Copenhagen): analyses the needs of different target groups and maps key digital and green competences required in the labour market.
• WP3 Programme Development and Implementation (University of Milan): designs new educational programmes with a micro-certificate based on the outputs of WP2, supports teachers and applicants.
• WP4 Quality Assurance of Micro-certificates (Charles University): analyses European and international approaches, evaluates the practice of partner universities and proposes quality criteria and their indicators.
• WP5 Communication and Dissemination (University of Warsaw): ensures the promotion of project results, communication with partners and the wider public.
Role of Charles University
Charles University is involved in all work packages and actively contributes to the achievement of the project objectives. It bears the main responsibility for WP4. The management of this group is ensured by the Department of Educational Quality and Accreditation (OKVA), in cooperation with the Center for Lifelong Learning (CCŽV). The head of WP4 is Mgr. Barbora Čapinská, Ph.D., the internal project coordinator for Charles University is Mgr. Jaroslav Pěnička (CCŽV).
Sustainable dimension of the project
Sustainability is embedded in the focus on green competences, i.e. skills needed for the ecological transformation of society and the economy. The project focuses on the "green transformation" as one of the main contexts for the emergence of microcertificates, and within the framework of the work package WP2, the key green competences required in the labor market are mapped. The project thus contributes to the transition to a more sustainable economy through targeted education and digitalization.
