Green Study Room is a pioneering project by Charles University in collaboration with the organization Kokoza, aiming to transform student dormitory spaces into eco-friendly, peaceful environments that support both study and well-being.
Set to launch in 2025 at Švehlova dormitory, this innovative space will combine modern, functional design with sustainable features such as indoor plants and a vermicomposter. The renovation of outdated dormitory areas will include relaxing zones, ergonomic seating, educational graphics, and opportunities for students to grow their own plants. The project is being implemented by a team of students with backgrounds in sustainability, design and project management.
The project is led by Bc. Andrej Lipan, a student of sustainability and circular economy at the University of Chemical Technology, who draws on his previous experience with the reconstruction of study spaces at Charles University in Prague. The team also includes Julie Toupalová, Bc. Michaela Štecová, and Lucas Počínek. Kateřina Vidimová enriches the team with her experience from studying environmental sciences and practice in planning and implementing gardens. Adéla Golasovská effectively connects the communication of sustainability topics with the student community.
Green Study Room initiative is supported and guided by Kokoza, known for its expertise in urban gardening and community development. Students involved in the project gained hands-on experience in project management and sustainable design through the Academy of Sustainable Project Management. The study space is designed to enhance concentration and reduce stress, factors proven to improve academic performance. The creators hope that the Green Study Room will become a model for similar spaces at other dormitories and invite further collaborations with other universities and schools.
