This year, Giving Tuesday at Charles University brought activities in the spirit of solidarity, helping others, and volunteering, contributing to the global call to support good deeds and community involvement.
Charles University participated in this initiative from November 20 to December 4, 2025, through its faculties and other departments, which prepared a program for students, employees, and the general public. More about this year's program HERE.
One of the interesting activities was a clothing and cosmetics collection, which took place at the Gratis Market on the Kampus Hybernská from December 1 to December 4, 2025. The collection was organized by the CU Sustainable Development Department in cooperation with the CU Volunteer Center and was intended for the Sant'Egidio community, the St. Theresa Shelter, Jako doma, and Šatník. By donating clean and undamaged clothing and basic toiletries, donors were able to help people in difficult life situations and thus promote the values of solidarity, humanity, and mutual aid. Thanks to the great interest, a significant amount of donations were collected, filling several large bags and boxes, which were sent to where they are really needed.
Giving Tuesday was followed by another community event – the celebration of International Volunteer Day, which took place on December 4 at the Kampus Hybernská. Students worked together to make Christmas cards for homeless people, people with mental disabilities, and hospital employees who work tirelessly to care for patients in long-term care wards and whose work is often overlooked.
The friendly atmosphere of the event was complemented by Christmas cookies and mulled wine, and participants also had the opportunity to taste gingerbread cookies baked by volunteers from CU. Everyone was delighted by a visit from Monty the therapy pony, who brightened up the day with his calm and friendly behavior and became the unexpected star of the event.
Giving Tuesday at Charles University has once again shown that even small acts can have a big impact and that sustainable development is not only about the environment, but also about caring for others, unity and the active role of the university in society.
A big thank you therefore goes to all students, employees and other participants who took part in the activities!
